The Montreal Holocaust Museum (MHM) has revealed what its new downtown building will look like.
The MHM unveiled digital renderings of the Saint-Laurent Boulevard building, the construction of which will begin next fall.
The museum is moving from its current location in Cote-des-Neiges. The new location is expected to open in 2025.
The project is expected to have a $90 million price tag.
The building’s architectural design was chosen following an international architectural competition.
The downtown museum will have exhibition spaces, classrooms, an auditorium, a memorial garden, and a dedicated survivor testimony room.
“Facing a rise of racism, Antisemitism, and discrimination, the new MHM will have a broader impact in galvanizing communities throughout Quebec and Canada to fight all forms of hatred and persecution,” the MHM said in a statement.
The winning design was created by KPMB Architects + Daoust Lestage Lizotte Stecker Architecture.
“We are delighted to share the designs of our new museum which will be an important space of learning, action, and coming together,” said Daniel Amar, the MHM’s executive director.
“The brilliant design succeeded in creating a space of powerful architecture that remains respectful and sensitive to the difficult history of the Holocaust and its human rights legacy that will be transmitted within its walls.”
