Montreal testing out emergency sirens

Montrealers will hear a very loud noise on Friday between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.

The city is testing out its annual emergency siren, in collaboration with eight large factories.

The siren is meant to indicate an industrial catastrophe, but this one is only a drill and does not mean there is a dangerous situation to be concerned about.

During this stimulation each factory will emit a loud sound, one after the other, the volume of the sound will fluctuate and it will last three minutes.

In the case of a real emergency, the sirens would be followed by directions. Those directions would tell you to:

-Enter the nearest building and stay inside;

-Close all windows, doors, ventilation systems;

-Do not go get your children at daycare or school to keep them out of danger;

-Avoid making calls in order to not block the phone lines.

Schools and daycares have their own emergency procedures to follow.

The city invites citizens to register for emergency alerts here.

This is what the siren will sound like.
