Île-Bizard couple stabbed to death, son charged in their murders

A 29-year-old man was charged with second-degree murder in the deaths of his parents Thursday, after the couple’s bodies were found inside a home in the Montreal suburb of Île-Bizard.

Police say the killings of 65-year-old Louise Boucher and 60-year-old Wayne Arnott were likely sparked by a conflict between family members.

Const. Jean-Pierre Brabant said the suspect, Mitchell Arnott, was found covered in blood and acting in a suspicious manner when he was arrested. Reports are that he showed up at a local hospital and staff alerted authorities.

“We had reason to believe he was in that house during the event,” Brabant said. “He had blood on him, it was suspicious, he was arrested and interrogated at length.”

A security perimeter was still in place earlier Thursday as major-crimes detectives continued to gather evidence at the scene.

Police were dispatched to a home at about 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday on Des Erables Avenue, overlooking the Riviere des Prairies, and Brabant said officers found two bodies that bore clear signs of violence.

The deaths were confirmed by a doctor with Urgences-santé.

The homicides are the 30th and 31st on Montreal police territory this year.

The couple was known in the Pointe-Claire community, as owning Bluenose Collectibles.

Dave Stubbs, columnist and historian with NHL.com posted: “I’m horrified learning of the deaths on Île-Bizard of Wayne Arnott & Louise Boucher. I’ve known Wayne almost forever as manager of Bluenose Collectible in Plaza Pointe-Claire, where I’ve bought many cards & more for my NHL and Gazette work. Condolences to all touched by this.”
