Fire at Royal Canadian Legion in Roxboro

"It’s devastating,” says Martin Bruyere, past president of the the General Vanier branch of the Royal Canadian Legion in Roxboro, where a fire broke out Tuesday. A hard hit for the community as Remembrance Day approaches. Pamela Pagano reports.

A fire broke out at the Royal Canadian Legion in Roxboro, the General Vanier branch, on Tuesday morning.

Firefighters responded to the call around 5 a.m. about the blaze on 4th avenue south.

No one was inside the building at the time and faulty electrical may be to blame according to initial verifications.

John Floud, current Legion President, says the building is not usable right now at all.

Pierrefonds-Roxboro borough Mayor Dimitrios Jim Beis, posted to Facebook, “Thank you to our Service incendie de la ville de Montréal – SIM for their quick and effective response. Know that I along with our Administration are there to assist in any way possible.”

The Legion was founded in 1957 and has been a part of the Roxboro community for 65 years.
