As the cold weather approaches, Premier François Legault says Quebecers should not expect to be forced to wear a mask in public places again, instead it will be recommended and left to the discretion of each individual.
On Wednesday, health officials will give an update as they note a rise in respiratory infections across the nation, particularly in children, at a time when the COVID-19 virus is still widespread and the seasonal flu is beginning to emerge. The update will be given by public health director Dr. Luc Boileau and health minister Christian Dubé.
The federal public health department, for its part, warned on Thursday that people should exercise greater caution because the respiratory viruses are beginning a pronounced season in the nation, COVID-19 immunity is eroding, and social interaction is rising as public health restrictions are being relaxed.
In Quebec, the mask mandate in most public spaces was lifted on May 14.
