Five Montreal museums will be free in December

Five Space for Life museums in Montreal will be free December 10 and 11 amid COP15 – Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversityat Palais des congrès. This includes the Biodôme, the Biosphere, the Insectarium, the Botanical Garden, and the Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium all of which form the largest natural science complex in Canada.
In a press release to the media the city says it is an opportunity to highlight, “the heritage of these exceptional institutions, as well as the knowledge and expertise they have, particularly in terms of biodiversity.”
Mayor Valérie Plante says, “the Space for Life museums play an essential role in raising awareness among the general public and we are proud to offer the entire population the opportunity to discover or rediscover these facilities for free.”
Caroline Bourgeois, Vice-President of the Executive Committee of the City of Montreal, responsible for major parks, sports and recreation, Mount Royal, Parc Jean-Drapeau, Espace pour la vie and East Montreal, added this “ offers the public [the] opportunity to reconnect with nature and to develop their knowledge and skills in order to protect it.”
COP15 is aimed at the conservation of biological diversity, by encouraging actions that will lead to a sustainable future. The international event sees over 190 parties take part in establishing a new global framework including global goals to preserve biodiversity for the next decade.
“Opening our museums free of charge during COP 15 in Montreal is a way of allowing the population to celebrate this essential event,” says Julie Jodoin, the director of Space for Life.
