Violent night in Montreal, three shootings

A violent night in Montreal, three shootings in a matter of hours on Sunday – and one person injured.

The first, around 7 p.m., a 38-year-old man shot in the upper body at the Atwater metro station.

It happened during an altercation involving about 10 people inside the metro station’s kiosk on de Maisonneuve Blvd. in Westmount.

The victim took refuge across the street in Place Alexis-Nihon. He was taken to hospital and authorities do not fear for his life.

Montreal police (SPVM) have yet to determine the circumstances around the event, but they say the man is known to them and is refusing to cooperate with investigators.

A second event around 9 p.m., gunshots heard on Jean-Nicolet in St-Leonard, near Robert.

Shell casings were found on the ground, and bullet impacts on a car and at least one building.

No injuries were reported in this case.

Lastly, at approximately 11:30 p.m., the doors of a home on The Boulevard, near Victoria Ave., in Westmount were hit by gunfire.

No one was injured in that event.

Police have yet to identify any suspects or make arrests in all three cases.
