Snow-loading operation underway for Montreal after first snowstorm of winter

Montreal has launched its first full snow-loading operation of the winter.
The city’s boroughs gradually began clearing snow Saturday.
Trucks are expected to be active throughout the weekend and into Monday.

Priority is being placed on major arteries, public transit lanes and bus routes.
Officials say they are also paying “special attention” to sidewalk-clearing.
The city says 3,000 people and 2,200 snow-removal vehicles are part of the snow-loading process.
The city says spreading and clearing operations are also underway.



Montreal is committing to quickly removing parking ban signs to limit the length of time cars are forbidden to park in certain areas.
Snow was still falling in Montreal by Saturday afternoon.
Environment Canada says accumulations reached 33 centimetres in downtown Montreal by 10 a.m.
