By CityNews Staff

Montreal’s Chinatown is set to celebrate the Chinese New Year next week, during a three-day festival in Sun Yat-sen Park.

The event will allow Montrealers to discover Lunar New Year traditions through a wide variety of traditional and cultural activities.

Sun Yat-sen Park will be specially illuminated and decorated with a hundred traditional lanterns complementing Dragons Chasing the Moon, for the duration of the event.

Over the three days, anyone will be able to purchase a ribbon, write their most fervent wish for the new year on it, then hang it from a branch of the Wishing Tree.

On January 20 and 21, La station de l’avenir, will have a mobile digital creation site, where anyone will be able to create a drawing, which will then be projected during the evening, illuminating the walls of the buildings overlooking Sun Yat-sen Park.

January 21 will see a parade take place along De La Gauchetière Street between Saint-Laurent Boulevard and Jeanne-Mance Street. More performances will take place throughout the day at Sun Yat-sen Park.

The celebration will end on Jan. 22, with a dragon and lion dance throughout Chinatown by the Chinese Association of Montreal and the Montreal Chinese Lion Dance Club. While at the park, more performances will close the day.
