Montreal police investigating two arsons downtown

Two criminally set fires in downtown Montreal are being investigated by SPVM’s arson squad.

“We are not able to say if both events are linked right now,” explained Julien Lévesque, spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), on Tuesday morning.

Authorities say the first call came into 911 around 5 a.m. to report the beginnings of a fire at a business on Guy, near Sainte-Catherine west. It was quickly extinguished.

About 10 minutes later, another call of a similar fire nearby at Arabica Lounge on Mackay street – also near Sainte-Catherine west.

The same scenario, broken window and accelerant found – the small blaze quickly put out.

No one was injured or inside at the time of both fires.

A perimeter has been established around both scenes to let arson squad investigators to complete their analysis and understand the circumstances.
