Fire ravages Pierrefonds-Roxboro strip mall

Multiple small businesses were heavily damaged by a fire in Pierrefonds-Roxboro overnight.

Calls coming into 911 around 1:30 a.m. about a blaze at the Place Avalon strip mall on St-Charles Blvd.

The flames quickly spread to the whole plaza, with the roof collapsing.

Firefighters believe the fire started in one of the businesses, but the cause is still unknown and the building is likely a total loss.

Pierrefonds-Roxboro Mayor Jim Beis posted to Facebook: “Devastating fire on St-Charles Boulevard through the night damaging several small businesses in our community and many families who provided a service to our residents. Our thoughts are with them and hope for a quick rebuild for them all. Thank you to the Service incendie de la ville de Montréal – SIM for their quick response limiting the fire and salvaging other stores along this strip mall. Thank you as well to our incredible Public Works Staff for their support during this terrible event. Know that we will be there to assist in any way we can those affected by providing the guidance necessary should they want to rebuild. #OurCommunityMatters”

No evacuations were needed, as the businesses were closed when the fire started – and no injuries reported.

An investigation is ongoing.
