A $20,000 reward is being offered to anyone who can help police locate Feng Tian, the 17-year-old who went missing in October in the Côte-des-Neiges–NDG borough.

According to Yuan Tian, cousin of the missing teen, Feng’s mother Sujing Nie “was very surprised that there was a lot of help from society, someone we know, someone we don’t know.”

Police are still looking for the teenager, and are now offering up the $20,000 reward thanks to an anonymous donor, through Sun Youth.

“[Feng’s mother] feels there is more hope to find her son back and she thanks the person for this kind help,” said Yuan.

The family received a call on Jan. 25, the same day marking 100 days the teen has gone missing.

“They were happy, shocked,” said Nie’s neighbour, Tricia Bartley. “Wish it could have happened sooner, so that less time has passed,” she added.

According to Bartley, Tian’s family and Montreal police found “nothing new.” They are hoping that the $20,000 reward will bring others to come forward with any information helpful in finding the missing teen.

“There is more possibility to find any information or to get her son back,” said Yuan.

The Chinese Montrealer, a newcomer to Canada who does not speak French or English, was last seen walking eastbound on Saint-Jacques Street from Décarie Boulevard on Oct. 17.

What happened Oct. 17?

The last time his mother Sujing Nie saw him was at lunch at his cousin’s place on Oct. 17 when he left to go home at 4 p.m.

Sujing received a message from her son at 9 p.m. saying he was ready to go to sleep, and she says when she got home at 11 p.m. that night, there were signs that he was already home.

With the assumption that he was sleeping in his bedroom Sujing says she did not check to see if he was there.

The next day she discovered he was not in his room – his backpack, money, and wallet were still in a drawer. With no response to their messages, Sujing was still hopeful she would see him at dinner. When that didn’t happen, police were alerted.

Sujing says her son liked it in Canada, he was learning the language and planning on getting his driver’s licence.
