Van Horne warehouse transformation: Montrealers asked to share concerns, opinions

By News Staff

Montrealers are being asked to share their concerns and opinions regarding the proposed transformation of an iconic Plateau-Mont-Royal building.

The nearly 100-year-old Van Horne warehouse – on Van Horne Avenue off Saint-Laurent Boulevard – is expected to be transformed into a complex with offices, a hotel, shops, restaurants and a roof terrace.

The plan would also include a new construction on the neighbouring land.

The developer needs the approval of the Plateau borough council, which in turn requires the opinion of an advisory planning committee.

That committee is hoping to hear from residents in order to “to complete their reflection on the future of this iconic building.”

Montrealers have until Feb. 12 to submit their concerns here.

The seven-storey building was built in 1924-25 to store merchandise. It’s wedged between a railway, the Saint-Laurent viaduct and Van Horne Avenue, given it its unusual shape.

Residents of the area have previously expressed concern modifying the landmark building will negatively impact the neighbourhood.
