Lockdown at Laurier Macdonald High School after threat made; nothing found onsite

By News Staff

Students and staff were confined inside Laurier Macdonald High School in St-Leonard for about two hours on Tuesday afternoon, after Montreal police (SPVM) say a possible threat was made towards the school.

“We have officers that are inside and out to make verifications to assure the safety and security of the students and personnel,” said SPVM spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant.

It all started around 1:35 p.m., police getting a 911 call. “When police officers arrived onsite they met with the principal from that school and we didn’t take any chances towards the threat that was made towards that school,” added Brabant. “So we confined the personnel and the students inside classes.”

No suspect or threat was found onsite by police so far; by 3:30 p.m., students and staff were starting to be let out class by class. No injuries were reported.

“We have an investigation that was opened and we’re trying to find who made that threat.”

“It appears it was a false alarm,” said Mike Cohen of the English Montreal School Board, which is in charge of Laurier Macdonald. “When you get a threatening call, you have to act upon it.”

This is the second week in a row a possible threat was made towards an EMSB school. Last Thursday there was a bomb threat at Royal Vale; police didn’t find anything on location in that incident.

“It’s very disturbing, very disruptive,” added Cohen.
