By News Staff

A 61-year-old man died on Friday after he was crushed by a car shelter that collapsed on him in Laval.

Police are calling it an accident.

It happened just before 12 p.m. in the Vimont district, when the back part of the structure suddenly fell on the victim.

There was a large amount of snow on the roof of the structure and it had to be removed before officers could get to the man.

Once they got him out, they performed CPR, but he was later pronounced dead in hospital.

Police are trying to establish why the car shelter collapsed.

Authorities say that the victim was not shovelling snow at the time of the accident.
