Bus drivers across Laval and the Montreal area, as well as other parts of the province, stopped simultaneously Wednesday morning, observing a minute of silence to honour the victims of last week’s deadly daycare bus crash.
Bus drivers stopped their vehicles at exactly 8:24 a.m. to pay their respects, the exact time the deadly incident happened on Feb. 8.
Two young children were killed when a Laval city bus rammed into the Garderie Éducative Sainte-Rose. Six other children were sent to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver was subdued by citizens that intervened right away and taken into custody by police.

The driver, 51-year-old Pierre Ny St-Amand of Laval, was charged that same day with two counts of first-degree murder and seven other charges, including aggravated assault and attempted murder. Police have yet to publicly identify a motive, but prosecutors allege it was a deliberate act. He is expected back in court Feb. 17.
