Montreal’s downtown YMCA opens temporary emergency site during cold snap

As extremely cold temperatures hit Montreal, the city announced it will open a temporary emergency site at the YMCA Centre-Ville downtown to ensure the safety of the homeless community.

The temporary site will be operational from 5 p.m.

A room will be available exclusively to women who will visit the site.

Montreal, its partners in the health network and community organizations will monitor the territory. A lookout will be carried out in the field by the SPVM and by members of the mobile mediation team in the social intervention (ÉMMIS).

The Montreal Emergency Measures Coordination Center will be mobilized to coordinate the actions of the Civil Security Organization of the Montreal agglomeration.
