Street cleaning resumes in Montreal

It’s spring cleaning time in Montreal – city workers are back out cleaning streets and sidewalks – which means no parking signs are back in effect so watch out for the signs.

“Taking care of the city, cleaning the city, it’s good for the spirit but it’s also good for the air and the environment because it means you will have less dust,” explained Philippe Sabourin, spokesperson for the City of Montreal.

The cleaning operation includes continuing the work to clear the thousands of trees and branches that fell following last week’s major ice storm.

“Now that the branches are on private domain we have enough room to take care of our city, make sure it is clean, and that the map of welcome will be on for tourism.”

They are also asking citizens to help in clearing those remaining branches.

“Give us a hand – if it’s possible bring your branches on the curb, if the clearing operation is done you can choose between the Ecocentres or the green waste,” added Sabourin.

The city saying it will take longer to clean due to the remains of the ice storm – likely the cleaning will take all of May as well.
