Former Montreal mayor and federal minister, Denis Coderre, is recovering from a ‘mild stroke’ he suffered on the weekend.
He took to Facebook on Monday afternoon, posting a photo of him, smiling while on a stretcher.
He wrote that he began to experience speech problems and numbness on the left side of his body on Saturday evening.
On Sunday, he went to the emergency room of the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal.
“They take care of me immediately. Thank God!!!” he wrote.
Coderre says he suffered a mild stroke, which extended his stay at the hospital.
He says since last Wednesday, he was experiencing symptoms like vomiting and loss of balance.
Coderre was a federal MP between 1997 and 2013 and served as Montreal’s mayor from 2013 to 2017. He ran again in 2017 and 2022, defeated both times by incumbent mayor Valérie Plante.
