Major closure on Metropolitan to cause heavy weekend traffic in Anjou area

A major closure along Montreal’s Metropolitan Expressway is expected to cause heavy traffic congestion this weekend.

Highway 40 will be closed in both directions between Langelier Boulevard and Highway 25 on April 22 and 23 as Transport Quebec works to dismantle part of the Galeries-d’Anjou overpass.

Service roads will also be closed in each direction.

As of Saturday 10 p.m. to Sunday 11 a.m. closures on Highway 40 include:

• Eastbound between exit 78 – Langelier – des Galeries-d’Anjou and the entrances from Highway 25
• Westbound between exit 80 -North and autoroute 25 north towards Laval and the entrance from Langelier Boulevard
• The ramps to and from the 25 north and south to 40 west and east
• Galeries d’ Anjou Boulevard will be completely closed above Highway 40.

The following closures will be in effect from Saturday 9 p.m. until Sunday 2 p.m.:

Highway 40 service roads:
• Eastbound between des Halles Avenue and the entrance from the shopping center
• Westbound between Jarry Street East and de Neuville Avenue

The $26.2 million project to replace part of the Galeries d’Anjou overpass will include a new bike path and wider sidewalks.

The work – which began in 2021 – is expected to wrap up this year.

Transport Quebec warns that if weather does not allow for road work this weekend, it will be pushed back to a later date. Rain is in the forecast this weekend.
