Rainfall warning issued for Montreal; flash flooding possible

By News Staff

Montreal and its surrounding areas are under a rainfall warning Sunday.

Total rainfall of 25-35 mm is expected until Monday morning for Montreal and Laval.

Environment Canada issued rainfall warnings for Montreal, Mont-Tremblant, Drummondville, the Eastern Townships, Quebec City and more.

The Quebec City region could get 40 to 70 mm.

Heavy rain could cause flash flooding and “ponding” on roads, the weather authority warns.

Environment Canada also says there’s a possibility of localized flooding in low-lying areas.

The Quebec Public Security Department’s flood monitoring site was reporting medium levels of flooding along the Outaouais river near Rigaud, west of Montreal, as well as the Ouareau river in Rawdon north of the city. Minor flooding was reported in more than a dozen other spots in the province as of 2:30 p.m.

The City of Montreal said in a tweet that the situation is under control on it territory, and resources are in place if the waters rise further.
