Four new reserved bus lanes coming to Montreal

The city of Montreal is adding four reserved bus lanes to its network over the next few months.

The president of the STM Éric Alan Caldwell said this will have a impact on the effectiveness of buses and the public transport network overall, at a low price.

“These initiatives are designed to improve the performance of our bus network by providing dedicated infrastructure and an enhanced customer experience. The exclusive use of buses and certain other modes of transportation on these routes, such as bicycles and taxis, ensures greater fluidity and better compliance with schedules,” added Caldwell, in a statement.

The first 3 km reserved bus lane will be in in the west end on Côte-Saint-Luc. It will run eastbound between Coronation and Fielding during morning rush hour, and run westbound between Alpine and Coronation during evening rush hour.

Lachine will also get a new reserved bus lane westbound on Provost Street between 1st and 32nd avenue, mornings and evenings.

In Villeray and Ahuntsic-Cartierville a new reserved bus lane will run on Saint-Laurent Blvd, in two segments, one between Jean-Talon and Crémazie in Villeray, another between Beauharnois and Sauvé in Ahuntsic. Some will run mornings or evenings.

Lastly, Shebrooke will see a new reserved bus lane running eastbound between Marcil and Décarie.

“These are concrete measures that will directly contribute to making public transportation even more attractive in order to encourage the population to change their habits and move away from solo driving. The network of reserved lanes makes it possible to offer efficient mobility options in sectors that are not served by the metro, so it is an important addition to the service that we are proud of,” said Sophie Mauzerolle, who is responsible for transportation and mobility on the Executive Committee.

These bus lanes are expected to be installed between this summer and next winter.

The city plans on introducing even more reserved bus lanes over the next few years.
