The principal at a Quebec school where a teacher was caught on tape screaming at her first-grade students has been replaced.
The École des Grands-Vents in Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac, Que., has replaced the school’s director for an indefinite period.
The teacher at the heart of the incident had already been suspended.
The Centre de services scolaire des Mille-Îles (CSSMI) announced Lyson Dompierre as the school’s new principal Wednesday.
The chair of the CSSMI says a psychological support team was deployed to the school Tuesday; it remains in place to support students and staff members.
Administrative and police investigations are ongoing.
Quebec Premier François Legault called it appalling to hear the teacher screaming on tape. Education Minister Bernard Drainville said it was awful to hear.
Audio of the incident is available here.
Quebec Liberal Party education critic Marwah Rizqy said earlier this week she hoped the government would reconsider the idea of letting the CSSMI investigate since, according to her, the teacher’s verbal abuse had gone on for months.
