Protesters from Montreal’s Iranian community marched through the streets of downtown Saturday to show their support with a British Iranian human rights activist who has been fasting for more than two months.

Vahid Beheshti has been on a hunger strike since the end of February to put pressure on his government to designate Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist group.

For months protesters in Montreal have been asking the Canadian government to do the same.

Saturday’s demonstration, which took protesters from Concordia University to Place des Festivals, was called “IRGC is Terrorist” by organizers.

There were mass protests and a bloody security force crackdown on demonstrators in Iran following the September death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini after her arrest by the country’s morality police.

In Montreal, protesters with the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement have met repeatedly on weekends to show support and call for change.

Organizers say the ongoing movement is a message to Ottawa to support Iran’s people and their demands.
