89 Quebec municipalities still struggling with flooding

By The Canadian Press

Eighty-nine municipalities are still affected by the recent spring floods in Quebec.

Three areas were experiencing major flooding on Saturday and water levels were on the rise, according to information from the Ministry of Public Security.

The Lac des Deux Montagnes in Pointe-Calumet, as well as the Outaouias River in the Fort-Coulonge sector and near Britannia Park, are experiencing major flooding.

The ministry also listed nine medium floods and eight minor floods.

As of Saturday morning, about 1,280 residences were still flooded, and nearly 1,340 residences remain isolated.

Two-hundred-and-ninety-two roads were still impacted by the situation, resulting in complete or partial closures. The Outaouais is the most affected region with 110 lanes disrupted by recent bad weather.

In Charlevoix, Route 138 is still closed at the Mares River in Baie-Saint-Paul.

Quebec announced Friday that 138 municipalities will be able to benefit from the General Disaster Financial Assistance Program. The list of municipalities is available here.

The program compensates municipalities for their additional expenses incurred by the implementation of temporary preventive, intervention or restoration measures.

A municipality is not eligible for financial assistance if it has not adopted a emergency preparedness plan.
