MARIEVILLE, Que. – A woman in her 50s lost her life after her motorcycle was hit head-on by an oncoming car Sunday night in the Montérégie region.

Another woman in her twenties who was also on the motorcycle was seriously injured in the collision.

The tragedy occurred at around 9:15 p.m. on Route 112 in Marieville.

According to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), for a reason that remains unknown, the car, which was travelling westbound, veered off the road into the opposite lane. The head-on collision occurred near the intersection of des Roseaux.

Police say both women on the motorcycle were ejected from it upon impact. Another car hit the body of the 50-year-old woman who was lying on the road.

The woman was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The driver of the car involved in the first collision was also taken to the hospital.
