Man murdered in Montreal, two homicides in less than 12 hours

By The Canadian Press

A 28-year-old man was found dead in the parking lot of a Montreal building Wednesday morning after being shot at least once. Reports say the victim was known to police.

Authorities (SPVM) explain that the man was found by a passerby around 3:00 a.m. on Henri-Bourassa Blvd. west, near the intersection of Bois-de-Boulogne Ave. in Ahuntsic-Cartierville.

“The police officers arrived on site, located a man of 28 years old that was unconscious. There was some CPR maneuvers that were done. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead onsite. Other verification were made on the body and a police officer found a gun wound to his upper body. So we’re confirming that a murder occurred here,” said Jean-Pierre Brabant, SPVM spokesperson.

Bullet casings where found nearby.

No arrests have been made as of yet.

A security perimeter was set up as investigators from the SPVM’s Major Crime Squad look to shed light on what happened.

“At this point, what we’re doing is we’re trying to get more information on the event itself. We’re doing some door to door. Trying to locate any witnesses that could help us understand when and what happened. We’re looking for surveillance cameras, too. There’s a couple of businesses around here and other apartment buildings so we’re trying to look at surveillance cameras to get footage, to know what happened prior to the arrival of the victim. Where was he coming from, was he with someone, was there a vehicle that was involved, we’re trying to get more information on that point?”

Officers are asking the public if anyone has information on this event to come forward by dialing 514-393-1133, Info-Crime Montreal, or dial 911.

Second murder in less than 12 hours

This murder comes a little less than 12 hours after a 39-year-old woman was shot and killed in a parking lot on Jean-Talon street west, near de la Savane, in the Côte-des-Neiges neighbourhood Tuesday afternoon.

A suspect was said to have fled the scene before officers arrived and as of Wednesday, police did not report any arrests in this case.

These are the eighth and ninth homicides on the island of Montreal since the beginning of the year.

The SPVM says that as of right now, they cannot confirm any link between the two murders.

“At this point, the information that we have, it seems like those two events, eighth and ninth murders are not linked together. We’re not closing any doors at this point. But from the first information that we have, seems that they were not linked together, but we’re still working really hard to try to figure out what happened,” said Brabant.
