After three years of construction, the Montreal Port Authority announced the official opening of its observation tower located at the end of the Port of Montreal’s Grand Quay – on Saturday, May 27.
The Port of Montreal Tower is the final stage and the last element of an extensive project to revitalize Alexandra Pier, which began in 2014.
The city has transformed the former Iberville Passenger Terminal into a user-friendly space integrated into the urban fabric of Montreal. It offers breathtaking views of Old Montreal, complemented by green outdoor spaces, a green roof, and a grassy lawn at the water’s edge, providing access to the banks of the St. Lawrence River.

Fun for the whole family
Standing 65 metres high, this majestic glass tower offers views of the city and the river, a unique interactive experience, educational capsules on Montreal and its port. Viewfinders allow visitors to explore various points of interest in the city, while augmented reality technology brings nine Montreal places and nine vignettes about the Port of Montreal to life. The lobby features robots, camouflaged as navigation buoys, that will greet you, as well as a large aluminum wall sculpture by Jordi Bonet, created in 1967 to commemorate the construction of the cruise terminal. On the 15th floor, a glass cage with a glassed-in floor awaits the bravest visitors seeking an adrenaline rush.
The Port of Montreal Tower aims to be accessible to the whole family, offering ticket prices of $15 for adults and family packages available for $45.
The city is offering free admission to the tower on the first weekend of operation, May 27 and 28, as a way of celebrating its opening. The Port Centre and its exhibition on port activities, “All aboard!”, will also remain open to the public free of charge for that opening weekend.
