REM delayed once again

Montreal’s much anticipated light-rail train system will be delayed once again.

According to Radio-Canada the first portion of the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) connecting the south shore to downtown Montreal is now expected to open this summer.

It was originally set to start running this spring.

That was not the first delay. The first porting of the REM was supposed to start running in 2021.

In 2022, CDPQ Infra — a subsidiary of the Caisse de dépôt – said the pandemic and the invasion of Ukraine made it impossible to deliver on time.

The trains are now being tested, but the final phase of testing, which involves running the trains at their regular frequencies without passengers on, has not yet begun.

The first station set to open will be in Brossard’s Quartier Dix30 – stopping twice before reaching downtown.
