The city of Montreal says its repaired more than 110,000 potholes in the last few months and the operations aren’t done yet.
“Pothole repairs it’s not only for motorists, it’s also for pedestrian and for cyclists,” said Philippe Sabourin, city of Montreal spokesperson.
The city has conducted six pothole operations since January, with a pothole plugging machine – the Python 5000.
“You only need one driver. So less employees, it’s more efficient and we can fill as much as 300 potholes per day per truck. And we have more than 12 trucks. So that means we have the ability to fill more than 3,000 potholes a day,” added Sabourin. “It’s more efficient also because we can clean the hole, we’re using hot asphalt and we have the possibility with this truck to put a lot of pressure on the repairs so the repairs will last longer.”
Filling potholes – more of a band-aid solution to a bigger problem the city admits.
They say 30 per cent of Montreal’s streets need serious repairs and they’re investing $880 million over the next 10 years to fix them.
“This year we got 3,600 complaints. If you compare to 2019, there was more than 8,000 complaints. So we’re starting to catch up on potholes.”
