Mont-Tremblant ironman event rescheduled for August after wildfire smoke forced cancellation

The Mont-Tremblant ironman event that was cancelled over the weekend due to poor air quality has been rescheduled for August.

The Mont-Tremblant Ironman 70.3 race, initially scheduled for Sunday, was cancelled as heavy smoke from wildfires blanketed the area.

Organizers said running the event would put athletes at risk due to the dismally poor air quality.

The Ironman 70.3 Mont-Tremblant – a half triathlon – will now take place Aug. 20, at the same time as the main Mont-Tremblant ironman triathlon.

“From the moment we had to cancel the event, we went to work with our partners at Événements Sportifs Mont-Tremblant to quickly identify a solution and provide all of our athletes with a variety of race options,” Dave Christen, the regional director for the Ironman group, said in a statement.

“That’s why we’re extremely pleased to be able to offer a new date to our registered athletes and to combine two great events, celebrating the best of sportsmanship.”

The 70.3 ironman event features a 1.9-kilometre swim in Lake Tremblant, a 90-kilometre bike ride through the Laurentian Mountains and a 21-kilometre run along the lake.
