Tap dancing his way to success, MontrealerJustin Jackson showed off his skills on the Americas Got Talent stage, and he didn’t miss a step, dancing his way into the hearts of judges and the audience alike.
“Knowing that I am from Montreal and I get to be on such a big stage is ridiculous, ”says Jackson, still in disbelief, “I am still trying to process everything that is going on it’s so surreal it’s unbelievable the amount of people reaching out and congratulating me.”
Jackson mesmerized everyone with his tap dancing skills, even receiving a standing ovation from the audience and a yes from all four judges, something he could have never imagined.
“If anybody would have told me that I would have got that chance years ago, I would have said no…it’s crazy,” says Jackson.
For him, being on stage is where he gets to show some of his personality, “whenever I’m on stage it’s not about being the best dancer and showing everything I can do it’s more about being remembered for being gentle and human, relatable…I much rather be classified as that rather than a good dancer or the best dancer.”
Jackson started to dance at the age of nine, now he’s well versed in not only tap but also in other dance styles like Ballet and Hip-Hop.
He describes his style as a fusion, that brings together the music he grew up with.
“I was always musical my parents used to play music on the weekends at our house, we used to hear Soca, Reggae, Jazz, Funk everything,” he says.
Jackson will take part in round two of America’s got talent in the upcoming months, he says while he’ll be trying to create new material, he wants to make sure he stays true to himself.
“I feel like in dance competitions or in any big reality contest shows you can kinda get lost with the high energy and with everyone else who are doing immaculate big things, I just want to remember to be myself and just show who I am.”
Audiences can watch AGT on Tuesdays at 8/7 Central on City TV.
