Some Montrealers were not deterred by the threat of rain and the poor air quality in the city Saturday, as they celebrated the 156th anniversary of Canadian Confederation.
Those living in and around Parc-Extension met at the Place de la Gare Jean Talon for an event hosted by the National Bangladeshi-Canadian Council.
The goal was to promote Canadian heritage and highlight different cultures.
There was music, dancing, children’s activities, live music, food on the BBQ and other entertainment.
Several participants waved red and white Canadian flags.
While the Canada Day festivities went ahead in Parc-Ex, others around the city did not.
Côte Saint-Luc, Dorval, Pierrefonds-Roxboro and Montreal West postponed their official Canada Day celebrations due to the weather.
Meanwhile organizers of Montreal’s Canada Day event cancelled the fireworks display out of “solidarity” with those affected by wildfires. Amusement park La Ronde said it would cancel the first night of an international fireworks competition over concerns the event would worsen the city’s air quality.
