Heat warning and possible thunderstorms over Montreal

The heat wave continues into a fifth day for Montreal and surrounding regions. It’ll be hot and humid over much of Quebec until Sunday.

Days and nights will be hot, accompanied by a chance of rain and thunderstorms.

Environment Canada issuing a special statement saying everyone is at risk of extreme heat. Schedule outdoor activities during the coolest parts of the day, if possible.

For Friday, we’ll reach a high of 26, feeling like 35 with the humidex. There is a 60 per cent chance of rain and thunderstorms during the day and night.

Saturday, high of 27 degrees, still feeling like 35 with the humidex. Cloudy with a 30 per cent chance of showers.

More clouds and a high of 26 on Sunday.

Temperatures will dip to 22 degrees with rain on Monday. But are expected to go back up throughout next week.

Experts say 2023 could be one of the hottest years on record. The last record was 2016.

We’ve seen record temperatures over the last few weeks. Canada broke heat records in May and June.

June was also the hottest month on the planet with an average temperature of 16.51 degrees. The highest we’ve seen in the last three decades.

This record-breaking heat, as we have seen in Northern Quebec, creates a high risk for forest fires.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, declared that these new record temperatures show the necessity for a greater responsibility towards global warming. Saying the situation we are witnessing is a demonstration that climate change is out of control.
