Fans line up to see Foo Fighters play the Verdun Auditorium

"They came here. It’s a small venue. It’s going to be an unbelievable show," said one fan who was waiting in line to attend the Foo Fighters concert. The band is back in Montreal —hitting the stage in Verdun after 20 years. Swidda Rassy reports.

Monday night’s small, nostalgic performance by the 90s rock staple Foo Fighters at the Verdun Auditorium will be a delight for the band’s diehard fans.

Wellington Street was adorned with a “Welcome back Foo Fighters” sign over the weekend in anticipation of the reunion.

Fans were shocked when the Foo Fighters announced through Twitter late last month that they would be adding a stop at the 3,650-seat Verdun Auditorium. The following day, tickets went on sale, and they were quickly sold out.

However, this is not the first time Dave Grohl has been welcomed by Verdun.

On November 2, 1993, Nirvana performed in the auditorium for the final time in Montreal before leader Kurt Cobain passed away, Grohl at the time was the band’s drummer.

It’s their first visit to the auditorium in 20 years. Foo Fighters played there in 2003 on the One By One tour.

The 1938-built Verdun Auditorium underwent extensive repairs beginning in 2018. The theater has previously played host to legendary acts including The Clash, Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, The Ramones, and Bob Dylan in addition to Foo Fighters and Nirvana.
