It may have looked awfully like a tornado, but according to Canada’s weather authority it could have just been a menacing-looking cloud formation.
Environment Canada investigated the “potential tornado” in the Sainte-Adèle area of the Laurentians on Tuesday.
A photo posted to social media appeared to show a spiral wind tunnel that looked a lot like a twister.

But Wednesday morning, Environment Canada’s Quebec branch said it was not considering the weather event a tornado.
“It should be noted that in the absence of new information, we will not consider the clouds seen during the passage of the thunderstorms yesterday, July 11th, to be tornadoes.”
Tornado warnings are not terribly rare in Quebec for this time of year. Most recently, a tornado warning was issued by Environment Canada on July 1 for parts of western Quebec.
