Ride the new REM for free July 29 and 30

By News Staff

You could take the new REM for free July 29 and 30 – during the light rail network’s inaugural weekend.

Trips between central station in downtown Montreal and Brossard will be free 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., tweeted the Quebec government.

The REM is set to be inaugurated on July 28, before officially opening for its regular runs July 31.

The system will link several Montreal suburbs and Trudeau Airport with downtown Montreal when it’s all fully open – which is expected to be by 2027.

The 67-kilometre light rail system is projected to cost $6.9 billion.

The REM launched a contest last week to make you among the first 100 people to ride the new light-rail network – between Brossard and downtown Montreal on inauguration day – July 28.

The REM will officially open to the public a few days later on July 31.

To participate, fill out the quiz available on the REM website.

Your score doesn’t affect your chances in the contest. One quiz entry, means one chance to win.

Each winner will get to bring a guest of their choice, and receive some free REM swag.

The 10 question quiz ends on July 20.
