A power outage on Montreal’s Île Sainte-Hélène Tuesday morning, has forced the closure of La Ronde.
In a post shared on Facebook, park officials assured that everyone was safe and that no visitors were on the rides.
By 12:15 p.m. they wrote that, “the site will be closed for the day. One-day tickets purchased for today may be used at a later date. Thank you for your understanding.”
On its mobile app, Hydro-Québec indicates that the outage on the island occurred shortly before 10 a.m., due to equipment failure.
In an e-mail to La Presse Canadienne said that the outage was caused by excavation work nearby, which affected an underground conductor.
The work was not carried out by the utility, said spokesman Maxence Huard-Lefebvre.
It is not yet known when power will be restored.
“We are mobilized to restore power as quickly as possible. However, we do not have a precise restoration timeframe at this stage,” he added.
