REM shuts down for a third time on Wednesday morning

MONTREAL – Service on the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) gradually resumed around 6:00 Wednesday morning, after an outage occurred some 30 minutes earlier, starting at 5:30 a.m., when the first trains of the day were scheduled to run.
On its third day of service between Montreal and the South Shore, the REM was hit by service outages in both directions.
As a result, no trains departed as scheduled at 5:30 a.m. from the Brossard station on the South Shore, nor from Central station in downtown Montreal.
REM and its partners therefore deployed a shuttle bus service to transport users between Brossard and Montreal via the Samuel-de-Champlain bridge.
In a brief written communication, CDPQ Infra explains that a computer problem at the control center affected the start-up of the cars, causing an interruption in service in both directions.
On Monday morning, a service interruption had immobilized trains for an hour and 15 minutes. A partial service stoppage, caused by a switch problem, was reported at around 8:00 am. Trains came to a complete standstill 30 minutes later.
Late on Monday evening, another breakdown occurred.
