An 84-year-old woman died of her injuries in hospital after being struck by a tow truck while crossing an intersection in Town of Mount-Royal on Monday.
Her husband, an 84-year-old man, is still in hospital in critical condition as of Tuesday morning.
The Montreal police force (SPVM) says multiple calls to 911 came in around 11:20 a.m. Monday about a man and woman struck at the intersection of Clyde Road and Dresden Avenue.
The SPVM says according to witnesses the truck was circulating north on Clyde and turning left at Dresden Avenue, where the pedestrians were crossing.
The two were taken to hospital in critical condition.
The truck that hit them was a Town of Mount-Royal tow truck. In a statement on their Facebook page the Town of Mount-Royal said “We are devastated by the terrible accident that occurred. Our heart goes out to the two pedestrians involved and their families”
They added that “The tow truck driver was on his way to assist another town vehicle that had broken down. The employee who was driving the vehicle is being treated for shock, and another employee who witnessed the scene is also being treated for shock.”
A perimeter was set up and the investigation is ongoing.
