NBO: Montreal sets attendance record for women’s tournament

By News Staff

The National Bank Open set an attendance record this year for the women’s game.

Tournament director Valérie Tétreault says 198,000 people visited the site since the start of the tournament, as of Sunday afternoon.

That number would only get bigger in the lead-up to the final.

The figure included everything from the first weekend qualifying sessions to Saturday afternoon’s first semifinal.

Tétreault, in her first year as tournament director, estimated the final total would be around 215,000.

The previous record, according to Tétreault, was around 182,000 spectators in 2014.
