A 16-year-old boy died following a crash early Sunday morning on Île-Bizard, in Montreal.
The vehicle left the road around 2:45 a.m., on Chemin du Bord-du-Lac, near Boismenu Street. He succumbed to his injuries a few hours after arriving at the hospital.
“According to initial information, the driver may have lost control of the vehicle to hit a low wall and end up on its side,” said Mariane Allaire Morin, an SPVM spokesperson.
The other two occupants of the vehicle, both aged 18, were also taken to hospital, but officials did not fear for their lives.
“It has not been confirmed who was driving,” said SPVM spokesperson Sabrina Gauthier. “When the police arrived on the scene, all the young people were outside the vehicle. The investigation will determine who was driving and in what condition the driver was, but all the hypotheses are currently being analyzed.”
The vehicle was heavily damaged following the impact.
The SPVM could not immediately specify whether alcohol, drugs or speed were involved. They are investigating.
