Health and Social Services Committee resumes work on Bill 15

The members of the National Assembly’s Committee on Health and Social Services is expected to resume work Monday afternoon to proceed with the detailed study of Bill 15, legislation aiming to make the province’s health system and social services more effective.
This is an imposing exercise, due to the size of the legislative text. One of the most important chapters of Bill 15 aims to create a Santé Québec agency, a government-owned corporation that would have the mandate to oversee the entire health network’s operations. The Ministry of Health and Social Services would retain the role of determining orientations and budgets.
Consultations on the bill took place last spring. Several groups expressed their opinions, including professional orders and unions. Health and Social Services Minister Christian Dubé hinted that amendments to the original bill could be tabled as early as this week.
