Quebec sports journalist Yvon Pedneault dead at 77

Longtime sports journalist, analyst and commentator Yvon Pedneault has passed away at age 77.

TVA Sports reported he died Friday night into Saturday at Charles-Lemoyne Hospital, in palliative care.

The network adds he was diagnosed with cancer just a month ago.

Pedneault worked for almost 60 years in the sports world, particularly the National Hockey League. He started out as a sports journalist before continuing as an analyst.

Originally from Saguenay, Que., Pedneault entered the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1998.

He was then awarded the Elmer Ferguson Memorial Trophy by the Association of Professional Hockey Writers.

He has worked for TVA Sports, RDS, Radio-Canada, the Journal de Montréal and La Presse, among others. He began his career at Progrès-Dimanche in Chicoutimi in 1965.

“We are losing a monument of hockey and sports journalism,” tweeted Quebec Premier François Legault. “A true enthusiast, a man who was always in a good mood who had fun and entertained us by describing the matches. Thank you for everything Yvon Pedneault.”
