Laval police looking for man linked to fraud investigation

Police in Laval are turning to the public for help in identifying a man believed to be involved in multiple fraud cases.

The Laval Police Service (SPL) says since July, investigators have linked 15 incidents where a similar scheme was used targeting the elderly.

During the scam, the suspect would contact the victims on their home phone line.

Usually using the names Émilie and Maude, the suspect would claim they were an investigator from a financial institution or the Anti-Fraud Centre, claiming that they have been victims of credit card fraud.

“After gaining the victims’ trust, she asks them to place their cards in an envelope and write their personal identification number (PIN) on the back. They are told that the investigator will pick up their cards at their residence,” said Laval police.

Police noted during the call that the alias Jérémy Turcotte would be used to identify the name of the “investigator” would would get the card.

Police have described the man they are looking for as a man between 30 and 40-years-old, 5’10” tall, weighing roughly 154 pounds, and having short dark hair with a dark beard. He has a tattoo on his left forearm and left hand. Additionally, he might wear earrings in both ears.

Anyone who may have any information on the man’s whereabouts is asked to contact SPL at 450-662-4636 or dial 911 and mention file LVL-230703-028.
