Sainte-Dorothée water now safe to use and drink again

The City of Laval, says residents can now use and drink their water again in Laval’s Sainte-Dorothée neighbourhood.

“The drinking water ban advisory is lifted. The citizens in the affected area in the Sainte-Dorothée district can now drink water and use it normally without restrictions. Evening analysis results confirm that the water from the municipal water supply is safe to drink,” the city stated on its website Thursday night.

This will be the first time since Tuesday that homeowners in the area will be allowed to use water. The water couldn’t even be boiled due to a contamination which occurred possibly during a firefighter intervention Tuesday morning.

Officials say everyone must first rinse their water pipes. The precaution of flushing the pipes is necessary given the maneuvers carried out on the network in recent days.

Steps to flush your pipes:

  • Let cold water run in the tub for a minimum of 20 minutes or until it is clear, colourless and no soap smell is detected.
  • Rinse all of the internal piping by letting cold water run in each of the taps of your home for a minimum of 20 minutes or until it is clear, colorless and 20 no smell of soap is detected.
  • Rotate the water in your water heater by letting the hot water run in the shower or bathtub for a minimum of 20 minutes or until it is clear, colourless and no soap smell is detected.
  • Once completed, please rinse the outdoor faucets and other appliances in the residence (e.g. washer, dishwasher, shower head, etc.)

More information is available on the City of Laval website.
