Montreal students are taking to the streets demanding climate change on Friday, marching from the George-Étienne Cartier Monument.
It’s the culmination of “Semaine de la rage climatique” in the province.
More than 50,000 students in Quebec are striking this week to express their “climate rage” and denounce what they call the powerlessness of governments to curb global warming.
Student associations, at both CEGEP and university levels, have adopted strike mandates to take part in the call by Rage climatique, an environmentalist and anti-capitalist coalition.
Various marches, organized in Montreal, Sherbrooke and Quebec City on Friday.
Montreal police (SPVM) estimate that 1,000 to about 1,500 people came out for the march.
The last week of September has been synonymous with climate mobilization since activist Greta Thunberg came to Montreal in 2019.
