Laval police arrest man in connection with May 2023 homicide

The Laval police force have arrested Jean-Philippe Mirand, 40, in connection with the homicide of a 51-year-old man in May 2023.

On May 7, at around 2:22 a.m., a 911 call was received concerning a man with stab wounds to the upper body. The suspect had allegedly attacked the victim on Claude-Gagné Street, in front of Place Bell.

The victim was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The suspect had quickly fled the scene and had been on the run ever since.

On September 24, investigators located the suspect in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The Laval police force dispatched a team of investigators to the scene to arrest the suspect. Steps were taken to repatriate him to Laval two days later. This was done in collaboration with Halifax Regional Police and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Mirand is charged with manslaughter and remains in custody. He is due back in court on October 6.
