New Irénée-Lussier specialized high school inaugurated Tuesday

Montreal children with intellectual disabilities and diagnosed with autism have a new school adapted to their needs.
The Centre de services scolaires de Montréal (CSSDM) inaugurated the new Irénée-Lussier specialized high school Tuesday morning.
The school in the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough can accommodate 250 students aged 12 to 21.
The building has natural light, with sober tones and wide corridors. The classrooms have anchors for swings and a kitchenette.
There are two spaces in the school that resemble apartments, where students can learn to do the washing, make their bed and cook.
Different rooms also reflect the different needs of these students. There’s a sensory room, soothing rooms and work areas to promote integration into the workforce.
The Quebec government invested $77 million into the project.
Quebec Premier François Legault and Quebec Education Minister Bernard Drainville were present for Tuesday’s inauguration.
