Laval mechanic suspected of sex crimes arrested again

By The Canadian Press

LAVAL, Qc – The Laval police force (SPL) says media coverage of alleged sex crimes by the owner of a Laval auto mechanic shop has paid off.

SPL reports that numerous other people have come forward and filed complaints against the man since his alleged crimes made headlines early last month.

Investigators from the SPL’s Sex Crimes unit first reported on September 8 that 57-year-old Chukri El Habre welcomed a person into his mechanic shop on February 3 because she was experiencing a problem with her car.

The shop owner allegedly asked the person to take a test drive with him to help identify the problem with the vehicle. It appears that once inside the vehicle, the individual engaged in sexual touching, and later committed further acts in the shop office.

The suspect was arrested on May 17 for sexual assault in connection with this case. He was released on several conditions.

However, on Wednesday, investigators arrested Chukri El Habre once again, on several other charges relating to sexual crimes committed in the last ten years. The accused is due to appear in court on Thursday to face charges of sexual assault, forcible confinement, criminal harassment and indecent acts.
